What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant recreates the anatomy and function of a natural tooth. It typically features a titanium post that is implanted into the jawbone. This post eventually fuses with the jawbone in a similar manner as natural tooth roots. The rooting device is then topped with a porcelain crown or cap to replicate the lustre of your tooth’s enamel and the strength of the dentin.
Improved Speech and Chewing
If you have ever chewed food with a partial or full denture, then you know how it can sometimes feel like you’re chewing more than your food. And, while dentures do help you to chew, they also feel like a hindrance. With dental implants, Red Deer patients can expect the same level of comfort and control in chewing and speaking they once enjoyed with their natural teeth.
Dental Implants Enhance Your Smile
Unlike traditional dentures, dental implants are fused into the jawbone, keeping the bone material active and healthy. By functioning as a natural root, implants help prevent that “sunken-in” facial appearance caused by demineralization of the jawbone. Since dental implants are rooted below the gums and topped by a crown, cap, or other dental prosthetic, in all likelihood, only your dentist and/or spouse will be able to tell them apart from the real thing!
Can Dental Implants Improve My Health?
Absolutely! In addition to keeping the gums and jawbone healthy, dental implants will allow you to chew better and more comfortably. With the discomfort that comes from chewing food with dentures, you may only be chewing the pieces to make them small enough to pass down your throat. Dental implants allow you to chew food more thoroughly, enable better food absorption, nutrient delivery, and the satisfaction of enjoying every meal.
How Are Dental Implants Used?
Implants are often used to replace individual teeth, but they can also support dental replacements like bridges. With implants, teeth next to a space do not have to be trimmed down to hold the fake “fill-in” teeth, as is the case with bridges. The dental implant works and looks just like a new tooth.
Are Dental Implants Right for Me?
Since dental implants are rooted into the jawbone, you must have enough strong, healthy bone matter to support the implant and be in generally fair health. If it turns out that dental implants may not be right for you, we can offer other types of restorations to help restore your oral health and smile.>
