The CEREC System
After your tooth is prepared, it is scanned with an electronic camera. The restoration is designed from this scan and then automatically cut out from a solid block of ceramic. The procedure is so precise that the finished crown will fit exactly on to your tooth. The only thing left to do is bond it securely in place. That’s all there is to it.
This one-visit treatment is not only convenient but it means that you won’t need any awkward temporary crowns put in. The immediate restoration is also much better for your tooth, and avoids a second appointment.
This means that we can frequently dispense with the need to have a full crown, leaving you with as much of your original tooth as possible.
CEREC restorations are made from ceramic – a natural substance that is particularly compatible with the body. The CEREC ceramic has the same characteristics as normal, healthy dental enamel. It can undergo the daily grinding of food without a problem. Additionally, ceramic is actually easier to keep clean than natural teeth. It has a smooth surface, without tiny pores that bacteria can occupy. It is also resistant to heat or cold sensitivity.
