Wisdom Teeth Removal and Tooth Extractions in Blackfalds and Rimbey
Tooth extractions are a common procedure we see quite often at Alpen Dental. Whether it’s due to severe tooth decay or infection, or because you need wisdom teeth removal, our caring team is here for you. We always aim to provide the highest level of professional dental care while remaining sensitive to the needs of our patients, and we strive to make the teeth extraction process as comfortable as possible.
Even with regular dental checkups and daily oral hygiene, one or more teeth may need to be extracted due to injury or disease. Our team will do everything possible to preserve your natural tooth, but if that proves impossible, we provide teeth extraction services which utilize IV sedation.
Even the removal of a single tooth can lead to a number of oral complications which can impact your chewing ability, cause jaw joint issues, and shift teeth, all of which affect your overall dental health. That’s why Alpen Dental also provides replacement tooth options such as dental implants and dental bridges to avoid these complications.
Should You Have Your Wisdom Teeth Removed?
Although an average mouth holds 28 teeth, many people experience four additional teeth cramming their way in. These third molars are often called “wisdom teeth.” Although they don’t always have to be extracted, they commonly cause complications which call for their removal, such as:
- Growing sideways
- Emerging partly from the gum
- Remaining trapped underneath gum and bone
These impacted wisdom teeth can cause many problems, putting patients at risk of infection and other complications. For that reason, those who have emerging wisdom teeth often experience swelling, stiffness, pain, and even illness. Early removal is often recommended, as it will avoid future problems and decrease the surgical risks involved in the extraction of wisdom teeth.
The Extraction Process
Whether you undergo a tooth extraction for the removal of wisdom teeth or another issue, the team at Alpen Dental will thoroughly evaluate your condition ahead of time. An oral examination allows us to provide an early evaluation and come up with a treatment plan to produce a positive outcome.
Alpen Dental’s own Dr. Negm performs these procedures. With over a decade of experience in the dental field, he is well accustomed to performing extractions and will guide you through the procedure, providing you with the information you need about associated risks as well as answering all your questions.
At Alpen Dental, we utilize IV sedation, which allows us to manage the discomfort associated with the extraction process. Once the teeth are removed, the gum is sutured and we provide patients with gauze to bite down on, which helps control bleeding. Then, our team supervises you as you rest until you are ready to leave our office and return home.
Once you are discharged, we’ll provide you with post-operative instructions, a post-operation kit, and prescriptions for any pain medications and antibiotics that may be required. Your follow-up appointment with us is generally two weeks after the procedure. However, if any issues arise, we encourage you to reach out. All questions or concerns are important to us.
